Great Tips from Successful Retailers

My name is Debbie Garcia and I am a full-time pre-analytical technician at the University of Chicago hospital as well as a mom. One day my father and I were talking, he said why don’t we open a business together. He has always been business oriented. One day, I woke up and said, "hey why not", I have some money saved and what a better way to invest it. So immediately we got the ball rolling. We opened our store Treasure Island in Worth, Illinois. Our Grand Opening was October 1, 2017. My brother runs the store full time. Our inventory came from items we had in storage and with an amazing amount of donations from family and friends. Store Pic

SSS: 1. Describe your proudest moment as a business owner?


Treasure Island: Our proudest moment as business owners was when we were issued our business license. If then hit me that anything is possible with determination and hard work.


SSS: 2. What are the new/existing challenges you are facing as a retailer/business owner?


Treasure Island: As new business owners, the most challenging point is getting our name out to the public and attracting customers to come and visit the store.


SSS: 3. What is the long term vision for your store?


Treasure Island: The long-term vision is to expand to a larger storefront and possibly open a 2nd location.


SSS: 4. What type of marketing works best for you?


Treasure Island: Social media and flyers seem to work the best for us.

SSS: 5. When it comes to customer service, how do you keep your customers happy?


Treasure Island: We always like to make the customer happy. We always want to make them feel welcome and let them know we appreciate their business. Because without them your business will not be successful.



SSS: 6. What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned since launching your business?


Treasure Island: Always have a business plan and a goal for your business consistently. But you also must remember that you will be consistently learning.


SSS: 7. What solution/problem are you solving with our products and why? What was the result?


Treasure Island: Specialty Store Services has helped us resolve the problems with displaying our products, we don’t have a lot of space and have a large amount of inventory.


SSS: 8. What is your favorite thing you order from SSS and how has it helped your business?


Treasure Island: My favorite items from Specialty Store Services is their grid display. It has helped us display a large amount of clothing without cluttering our floor space.
